Jack White returns to “Saturday Night Live” Studio 8H on Saturday night for his sixth career appearance. Ahead, he’s shared two brand new songs – “GOD and the Broken Ribs” and “Derecho Demonico” – that he’s expected to perform there. The songs are now available on streaming services and will be released on vinyl at thirdmanrecords.com as well as in the Third Man shops in Nashville, Detroit and London.

Jack Black appears in White’s episode as host of Saturday Night Live. The two Jacks first teamed up in 2019 when White produced the Tenacious D single “Don’t Blow It, Kage,” which appeared on Third Man. They jokingly referred to the project as “Jack Gray”. At least one fan confused the two very different men and sent a photo of Jack Black in his Mandalorian costume to Third Man Records – asking for an autograph. “We recently received this letter to Jack Black at Third Man Records. I suspect someone got the wires mixed up,” White wrote in an Instagram post. “I’m still trying to figure out what to do – do you have any ideas?”

Both Jacks have a long history with “Saturday Night Live.” Jack White first appeared with the White Stripes on the October 19, 2002 episode hosted by John McCain. They played “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground” and “We’re Going to Be Friends.” He returned as a solo artist in 2012, 2018, 2020 and 2023. The 2020 appearance came about at the last minute after scheduled guest Morgan Wallen violated COVID protocols. White also attended SNL’s 40th and 50th anniversary celebrations.

Jack Black and the Five-Timers Club

Jack Black hosted the show in 2002, 2003 and 2005 before returning last year after a twenty-year hiatus. Saturday will be his fifth episode as host – meaning he’ll receive a green jacket and join the exclusive Five-Timers Club. If tradition holds, there will be a skit in which other club members make cameo appearances and present him with the jacket.

If there were a Five-Timers Club for musical acts, White would be a member long ago. Even without a green jacket, he’s going on a tour this summer with mostly international dates. It begins on May 30th in Sigulda, Latvia and ends on September 20th at the Borderland Festival in East Aurora, New York.
