A fire was started on Saturday night at a house on Van Wielesteinstraat in Waalwijk. No one was injured, police said on Sunday morning. No one was home at the time of the fire. Because there was a lot of smoke, neighbors had to leave their homes.
Local residents were startled awake around half past three by a loud bang. Later, the police received a report of a house fire. The police cannot yet answer the question on Sunday whether an explosion preceded the fire. This is being investigated, a spokesperson said.
The fire brigade cut open the front door with a chainsaw to gain entry. There appeared to be no one home.
The fire caused a lot of smoke. That’s why neighbors had to leave their homes. Once the fire brigade had extinguished the fire and ventilated the place, they were able to return. The house where the fire raged was damaged.
