For Switzerland, the upcoming qualifying games are about seizing an opportunity. One player will be missing.
Alisha Lehmann has canceled her participation in Switzerland’s World Cup qualifiers against Turkey. In a statement, the Swiss Football Association (SFV) said: “Alisha Lehmann and Irina Fuchs will miss the upcoming move together. The Leicester City attacker and the 1. FC Köln goalkeeper have to take a break due to a muscle injury.”
Coach Rafael Navarro’s team will first face Turkey in the first leg in Zurich (April 14th), before the second leg takes place four days later in Sinop, Turkey. “We want to build on the achievements from the last camp and continue to grow,” explained the 40-year-old in advance. “At the same time, with these two games we can put ourselves in a very good position to win the group. We have to take advantage of this opportunity.”
Switzerland has so far won two games in qualifying for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. Alisha Lehmann scored in the 4-1 win against Malta. How long she will be out is unknown.
