Arsenal fail in the FA Cup quarter-finals at second division side Southampton. There is also a German coach behind this with an extraordinary series.

Ross Stewart scored to give Southampton the lead in the 35th minute. Viktor Gyökeres equalized in the 68th minute after Kai Havertz’s assist. Shea Charles scored the decisive goal in the 85th minute. Arsenal’s team manager Mikel Arteta had relied on his starting eleven.
Southampton team manager Tonda Eckert extended his unbeaten streak to 15 games. The 33-year-old has been coaching the Saints since November and is expected to lead the club into the Premier League. With their place in the semi-finals, Southampton now also have a chance at Wembley. Eckert told the BBC: “We knew it was going to be a tough game and we had to wait for the right moments. Big credit to the boys. It would be fantastic if we made it to Wembley.”
Individuals also stood out: Former Heidenheimer Leo Scienza missed the 2-0 with a shot against the crossbar in the 62nd minute. Bayern loanee Daniel Peretz held strong in goal several times, and former Nuremberg player Caspar Jander also impressed.
Arsenal dominated the game, but Southampton were more determined – three days before the Champions League quarter-final first leg at Sporting Lisbon.
