Manchester City and Liverpool FC have already met twice this season. Both times the “Skyblues” left the field as winners. In the first half of the Premier League there was a confident 3-0. In the second leg at Anfield, Pep Guardiola’s team won 2-1 thanks to a penalty from Erling Haaland. Now there will be the third duel between the two top English teams in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. Who will advance to the semi-finals?
17th minute: Silva with an outstanding pass to Cherki. But he misses the ball easily. Nevertheless, he manages to finish in front of Mamardashvili, but fails because of the LFC goalkeeper. There would have been more.
14th minute: Suddenly things go haywire. First O’Reilly has the chance for City. The young Englishman finishes on the right side of the penalty area. But Mamardashvilli is there. The Georgian then hits the ball wide to Salah, who initially prevails brilliantly against Kushanov, but then clearly misses in front of Trafford because Kushanov, who gets up again, throws himself decisively into the path of the shot. Great opportunity for Liverpool.
11th minute: A fine interplay between Wirtz and Ekitiké brings the guests’ next goal. The German international lays it on the ex-Frankfurt player on the edge of the penalty area, but his shot from a distance is ultimately too harmless.
9th minute: Liverpool takes hold of the opponent’s penalty area, but cannot find the gap. The City defense is secure up to this point.
7th minute: City puts pressure on Cherki for the first time, who takes the first corner for his team. Silva brings the ball into the middle, but Mamardashvilli pays attention and plucks the ball out of the air.
5th minute: After a free kick from Szoboszlai from the half field, Konaté heads the ball. However, the ball flies onto the city housing without force. Trafford is sure to grab it.
3rd minute: Wirtz whirls straight through the “Cityzens” backline. After a lay-off from Ekitiké, the DFB star also finishes. But it is blocked and only spins towards the goal in slow motion. No danger.
