The golf icon is once again involved in a car accident. Video recordings have now been published. One sentence from the star makes you sit up and take notice.
Tiger Woods said he spoke to the president on the phone immediately after his car accident. This emerges from video recordings from the body camera of one of the police officers involved, which were published a good week after the golf superstar’s accident. It is not clear from the video whether Woods was referring to US President Donald Trump. Woods can be heard saying goodbye on the phone and then telling the officer: “I just spoke to the president.”
Woods and Trump are friends. During the US president’s first term in office, Woods received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States. Trump spoke out after the accident and described Woods as “a very close friend.”
Further police actions could also be seen in the video footage released by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, according to media reports. Woods completed various tests, was handcuffed and had his pockets searched.
Woods was released on bail from the Martin County Jail a week ago, hours after his arrest on drug charges. A breath alcohol test showed a value of zero. However, the 15-time major winner did not want to take a urine test. He was charged with impaired driving and refusing to take a test in connection with the accident. Woods’ first court appearance is scheduled for April 23.
Court documents show Woods has pleaded not guilty. According to consistent media reports, Woods said during questioning that he briefly looked at his cell phone and changed the radio station in his car before he struck the trailer of another vehicle with his SUV and overturned his car.
