The city of Kortrijk has decided to purchase the medieval cellar under Grote Markt 34/35. The basement, with an area of 114 square meters, is taken over from real estate company Immo Sinte-Goedele for 35,000 euros.
The space is a protected monument and dates back to the 13th century. The city has been using the basement since 2004 through an agreement with the owner. When he announced in October last year that he wanted to sell the building, the city council investigated purchase options.
