Leverkusen's offensive player Martin Terrier will miss the rest of the season.

As of: April 3, 2026 • 2:28 p.m

Things are not going well for Bayer Leverkusen. Out of the Champions League, three games in the Bundesliga without a win and now the end for Terriers.

The French offensive player Martin Terrier had to leave before the international break in the disappointing 3-3 draw against bottom team 1. FC Heidenheim suffered a muscle injury in his right back thigh a few minutes after being substituted on. On Friday, Bayer coach Kasper Hjulmand announced the drastic consequences of the short-term assignment: “The season is over for him.”

Quansah return possible against Borussia Dortmund

This means that Terrier will not only be the remaining seven Bundesligagames, but also the DFB Cup semi-final against FC Bayern Munich on April 22nd. For Leverkusen, who are only ranked sixth in the league, this is another setback ahead of Saturday’s home game against VfL Wolfsburg (3:30 p.m.). Often coming off the bench, the 29-year-old scored five goals and prepared one goal for Leverkusen this season.

Things are looking better for central defender Jarell Quansah, who was also injured against Heidenheim. According to Bayer, playing against Wolfsburg is not yet an option, but there is hope of a return in the away game at Borussia Dortmund next week, said Hjulmand.

Of course they have problems this season, but they often play better than the table currently shows.

Bayer coach Kasper Hjulmand about VfL Wolfsburg

The Bayer coach can already plan for Saturday with Loïc Badé, who is an option for the squad and starting eleven after his muscle injury. Eliesse Ben Seghir is also available again after recovering from an ankle injury. Aleix Garcia, on the other hand, has to take a break due to a yellow card suspension.

Bayer Leverkusen wants to attack in the final spurt of the season

After recent mixed performances and, including the Champions League, five competitive games without a win in a row, Leverkusen would like to get back on track against relegation-threatened VfL Wolfsburg. “We made mistakes and analyzed them,” said Hjulmand. “Now we’re starting normal weeks and we can work for the next few weeks. It’s important that we work a little tighter and a little more precise in our defense.”

Despite the recent mixed results, the coach does not feel any pressure on himself. “It’s not about me personally. The team is the most important thing,” said the Dane. He works “100 percent focused” on the things that he can influence and at the same time accepts what is beyond his influence. He clearly sets the direction for the end of the season: “We want to attack and attack the table,” emphasized Hjulmand.
