The former Romania coach had already felt ill in the locker room during a technical meeting ahead of the match against Slovakia. He was about to be discharged before the heart attack
Fear for Mircea Lucescu, 81 year old former coach of Romania (sacked after elimination in the world playoffs), struck by two heart attacks (the first at 9.30 am, the second at 12.04 pm local time) just as he was about to be discharged from the University Hospital of Bucharest. The former Brescia and Inter coach is currently in serious condition in the intensive care unit. Lucescu had felt ill in front of the players, during the technical meeting the day before the match against Slovakia, a match among the defeats in the world playoffs. The ambulance doctors managed to stabilize his condition: his pulse rate returned to normal during transport. Mircea then did not go to Bratislava, remaining hospitalized for observation, even though the doctors had diagnosed him with simple syncope. However, he had a defibrillator installed.
