Roxeanne Hazes achieves something that doesn’t happen often: positive reviews from all TV critics. From Albert Verlinde to Tina Nijkamp: everyone thinks she did a great job in The Passion.
Every year we see a different celebrity star as TV Maria and after Do (2011), Glennis Grace (2018) and Trijntje Oosteruis (2021), among others, it was Roxeanne Hazes’ turn last night to play one of the leading roles in the ratings hit The Passion. The relatively unknown Milan van Waardenburg was allowed to be the TV Jesus next to her.
‘Wow!’
TV authority Tina Nijkamp thinks Roxeanne did a great job. “Wow! What a good edition! Good cast, beautifully sung and many good songs. Beautiful location too. For me the best ever after the 2018 and 2012 edition,” she writes on her analysis channel.
She continues: “Roxanne and Milan the best Mary and Jesus in years. Everyone sang really beautifully. Everyone was just very good. Ps, next year we might come up with something different for the Anita part (with the stories) and replace the English songs with Dutch songs. But those are details.”
‘Fantastic!’
Victor Vlam is also enthusiastic. “Fantastic edition of The Passion. Excellent Jesus, Mary and narrator (Astrid Kersseboom). And what enthusiasm from that drummer (Sven van der Meer). Good that this story of sacrifice is told annually,” he says. X. “Rox’s modesty made it very moving.”

Celebrity photographer William Rutten thinks Rox is a megastar. “I especially thought Roxeanne was incredibly good. If you also look at Twitter and X… Yes, everyone is talking about Roxeanne and how well she did. Yes, she really stood out,” he says in Show news. “Anyone who had doubts about Rox’s singing skills was convinced tonight.”
Studio guest Roy Donders: “I didn’t know she could act so well. It’s as if she’s been doing it for twenty years.”
Nice edge
Albert Verlinde is also lyrical. “Roxeanne is fantastic. The great thing is that she is so unique,” he says RTL Tonight.
Beau: “It has a very nice edge to it, doesn’t it?”
Albert concludes: “Yes, there is a kind of drama in her voice. I always think she is a kind of nightclub singer who sits on a stool and has such a crooner sound.”
