The fire broke out around 5 p.m. this afternoon. According to the fire brigade spokesperson, a large number of cars were on fire. These scrap cars contain many flammable substances, which release a lot of smoke.
Two NL-Alerts were sent out because of the smoke. It called for people not to come to the location and to keep windows and doors closed.
According to the fire brigade spokesperson, company employees first tried to extinguish the fire themselves. Paramedics checked the employees for smoke inhalation. It is not clear whether anyone was taken to hospital.
Around 6:45 p.m., the spokesperson for the safety region announced that the fire has now been isolated. This means that fire can no longer spread to other cars. The fire was brought under control around 8 p.m.
