Jonas Hofmann will not be signing a contract extension with Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the near future. “As of now, Leverkusen will be over in 2027,” said the 33-year-old in a “Sky” interview. He was informed that his current working paper “is not currently being extended. That would mean that next year will be my last in Leverkusen.”
The offensive player, who played an important role in the championship season under Xabi Alonso and was a national player, is only used sporadically this season. He was in the starting line-up 14 times across all competitions, but in the Champions League he was only called up for the knockout phase and was only allowed to take part twice. In total he had three goals and three assists.
Hofmann’s market value fell to 2 million euros last summer and has remained unchanged since then. The former Dortmund and Gladbacher is not currently thinking about ending his career after his contract expires – he would then be 35 years old. “I’m totally in the juice, so it generally shouldn’t come to an end.”
