The quarter-final second leg of the Women’s Champions League was a one-sided affair: FC Barcelona clearly put Real Madrid in its place and advanced to the semi-finals.
The 21st Clásico was nothing more than a training game for the FC Barcelona women. For Real Madrid, however, the prestigious game was a real lesson. Coach Pau Quesada’s team presented themselves like overwhelmed sparring partners.
In the end, a well-deserved 6:0 (4:0) flashed on the scoreboard of the huge Camp Nou in the Catalan metropolis, which is still under renovation.
More than 60,000 spectators at the Camp Nou
Alexia Putellas (8th), Caroline Graham Hansen (15th, 55th), Irene Paredes (27th), Ewa Pajor (34th) and Esmee Brugts (74th) scored the goals for the hosts.
Barcelona easily qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League in front of 60,067 enthusiastic spectators. Madrid remained without a single shot on goal in the entire game.
On the 25th/26th The FC Bayern women will host the Catalans for the first leg in April. The second leg will take place on the 2nd/3rd. May in Barcelona. These disputes are likely to become much more competitive.
Too big Quality difference
It was already clear that the Madrilenians would have needed a (football) miracle to reach the finals of the last four teams. The Barca women already won the first leg in Madrid 6-2 in the Spanish capital.
There can be no talk of duels on equal terms, which the male teams have been fighting year after year for decades, for the women. The quality advantage of the Barcelona team coached by Pere Romeu is far too big for that.
Madrid is just running behind
After the first quarter of an hour, Barcelona were clearly 2-0 ahead thanks to Paredes (right-footed shot) and Pajor (header). FCB’s superiority became visible in every scene afterwards.
The Madrilenians tried to defend themselves with increasing severity, but that didn’t have the desired effect. Paredes (header) and Pajor (left-footed shot) increased the score to 4-0 before the break.
Brugts scores the final score
Cheered on by the many Barca fans, the FCB women continued where they left off before the break. The Madrilenians simply couldn’t cope with the constant pressure. Hansen again shot the ball into the net from ten meters to make it 5-0.
The game only went in one direction, but Barcelona were all too careless with the many chances to score. Brugts made it 6-0 with a left-foot shot and thus the final score in this extremely one-sided game.
