UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has urged Italy to make progress on stadium infrastructure with a view to the 2032 European Football Championship.
“The 2032 European Championship is planned and will take place”said the 58-year-old to the Italian sports newspaper “Gazzetta dello Sport”. But he hopes that the infrastructure will be ready. “Otherwise the tournament will not be played in Italy”said Ceferin. The 2032 European Championship is scheduled to take place in Turkey and Italy.
Recently, however, there has been increasing criticism of the condition of the stadiums in Italy, some of which were classified as not suitable for the European Championship.
A year ago, Ceferin had already described the infrastructure of Italian football as “a shame” designated. Of the large countries, Italy has by far the worst infrastructure, he said at the time.
Ceferin: Italy continues to be a heavyweight
Last Tuesday, Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup for the third time in a row. Football is in a deep crisis there.
Ceferin still sees the country as a heavyweight in Europe. Italy will “get back to the top”he said. What is crucial, however, is better interaction between all those involved. Then the country could win titles again.
