Ermedin Demirovic from VfB Stuttgart is facing a highlight of his career. The attacker qualified for the World Cup with the Bosnia-Herzegovina national team. Now he wants to keep a promise he made to fans in Stuttgart.
Demirovic enters Stuttgart Free Drinks Promise
Because before the qualifying games Football World Cup in Mexico, Canada and the USA Demirovic spoke about qualification on TV channel Sky. “If we manage this, I’ll spend one for the whole of Stuttgart,” the VfB player said. “Then there will be drinks on my neck for the fans.”
Now it’s clear: Bosnia is going to the World Cup. In the qualifying semi-finals, Demirovic’s team beat Wales 5-3 on penalties. The four-time world champion Italy was waiting in the final of the World Cup finals. Demirovic started Tuesday night’s game but was substituted in extra time when the score was 1-1. Nonetheless Bosnia managed to win 4-1 on penalties. This meant the team was able to fulfill their dream of reaching the finals.
Demirovic euphoric: “Anyone who wants to can come”
After the success, fans in Stuttgart can look forward to free drinks. “I spend one, with love,” said Demirovic in a Sky interview after the game. “One man, one word. Will probably be expensive.”
At the World Cup, the Bosnians will face co-hosts Canada, Qatar and Switzerland in the group stage. “Now anyone can come,” said Demirovic. “We will now celebrate and be happy and we don’t care about the opponents at the moment.” The VfB player was optimistic: “If we play the way we play, we have a chance against every opponent.”
