The German curlers failed prematurely at the World Cup in the USA.
The fourth defeat in a row sealed the fact that we would miss the playoffs even before the final preliminary round games. The team led by skip Marc Muskatewitz once again had no chance against Sweden at 3:8.
Muskatewitz: “We missed our goal”
“We missed our goal. That’s of course extremely unfortunate. We weren’t exactly precise against Sweden either,” said Muskatewitz: “That was just very annoying.”
Most recently, Germany lost to defending champions Scotland (4:10), Switzerland (6:7) and Japan (4:10) at the World Cup in Ogden, Utah. With a total of six defeats and four wins, the German team is in eighth place in the table and can no longer reach the playoffs. The final games against China and Canada no longer have any sporting value.
“We actually had a very good start to the World Cup, but from game three onwards we lost our security. We played much less precisely, which the opponent was always able to quickly take advantage of,” analyzed Muskatewitz. The playoffs for participation in the semi-finals had been the declared goal. The best two teams in the Round Robin move straight into the semifinals, the teams in third to sixth place play in playoff duels for two more tickets.
At the Olympic Winter Games in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the selection of the German Curling Association (DCV) narrowly missed out on the medal games with seventh place in the round robin.
