The dismissed alderman Guido Schoolmeesters from Someren will not return to the new council. Schoolmeesters was elected to the new city council with a large number of preferential votes and was eager to return to the alderman’s plush. But there is no support from the other parties in the council for Schoolmeesters as alderman.

The party of Schoolmasters, the Community List, achieved a resounding victory in the municipal elections. According to an advice from the informateur, a coalition of Community List, the CDA and Wij are Someren-VVD would stand a good chance of a stable government in Someren.

But, according to the informant, there were conditions to this, including that Schoolmeesters no longer sit on the plush. The other parties then no longer want to cooperate.

The former alderman was dismissed by the city council, because he would have favored his son in the purchase of a house. He also allegedly favored a construction company. Schoolmeesters is furious about his dismissal and also fought in court to restore his good name.

According to party leader Bart de Groot, it has now been decided to put forward another alderman candidate. “Otherwise we would end up in the opposition. We have never had such a big election victory, so that would be very strange.”

De Groot is convinced that the residents of Someren would have liked to have had Schoolmeesters back as alderman. “But if other parties do not have that wish, then it is not possible. And Someren also benefits from administrative peace.”

The former alderman will also sit on the council.
