The 48 tickets for the World Cup in the summer have been allocated. Who is there? t-online gives an overview.
Iraq has secured the final ticket for the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada. This means that all 48 starting places for the title fights in the summer (June 11th to July 19th) have been taken.
All twelve World Cup groups at a glance
Group A: Mexico, South Korea, South Africa, Czech Republic
Co-hosts Mexico have taken part in a World Cup seventeen times. South Korea has been taking part in the finals without interruption since 1986 – but only for the twelfth time. South Africa is returning to football’s biggest stage for the first time since the 2010 home World Cup. The Czech Republic last took part in 2006, winning the decisive playoff game on penalties and surprisingly letting Denmark’s dream of the World Cup collapse.
Group B: Canada, Switzerland, Qatar, Bosnia & Herzegovina
The co-host has taken part in a World Cup twice so far, but was always eliminated in the preliminary round. In contrast, Switzerland has not missed a final tournament since 2002 and most recently reached the round of 16. The host of 2022, Qatar, has qualified for the first time and will now face the Italian conquerors from Bosnia, who took part in the next tournament after 2014.
Group C: Brazil, Morocco, Scotland, Haiti
The Brazilians around superstar Vinícius Junior are the clear favorites to win the group. Morocco, which made it to the semi-finals in 2022, is the strongest challenger. Scotland, who have qualified for a World Cup for the first time since 1998, and Haiti, who are ending a 52-year drought and taking part for the first time since 1974, remain outsider chances.
Group D: USA, Australia, Paraguay, Türkiye
The USA make the host trio perfect. They are taking part in a World Cup finals for the twelfth time. At their last home World Cup in 1994 they reached the round of 16. The “Socceroos” from Australia have been an integral part of the tournament since 2006. However, things haven’t gone any further than the round of 16 so far. While Paraguay returns after a 16-year break, Turkey achieved redemption after 24 years.
Group E: GermanyEcuador, Ivory Coast, Curaçao
The four-time world champion from Germany has appeared in 20 finals and, despite two preliminary round embarrassments, is the clear favorite in his group. First it’s against World Cup newcomers Curaçao, before the duel with Ivory Coast, who have always been eliminated in the group phase in their previous three participations. Ecuador, already Germany’s group opponent at the 2006 World Cup, is also considered an outsider and was eliminated in the preliminary round in a total of four participations.
