In front of a record setting
Bayern women move into the CL semi-finals

In recent years, Bayern have only played a minor role in the concert of the big players. They have now reached the semi-finals for the first time since 2021.
FC Bayern’s women beat Manchester United 2-1 (0-1) in a close game and thus reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. After Munich’s 3-2 away win, everything pointed to extra time for a long time on Wednesday evening, as the English initially led thanks to a goal from Melvine Malard (11th minute). In the final phase, however, Bayern turned the game around with a double strike from Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir (80′) and Linda Dallmann (84′).
In recent years, FCB has repeatedly been eliminated in the quarter-finals of the premier class. The Munich women were in the semi-finals for the last time in 2021. Meanwhile, the euphoria surrounding the team seems to be great. For the game on Wednesday evening, 25,000 fans streamed into the Allianz Arena – that’s a new club record in the premier class.

In the semi-finals, Bayern will most likely face FC Barcelona, who won their quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid 6-2. The second leg takes place on Thursday evening (6.45 p.m., in the live ticker on t-online). The Bundesliga team has already suffered a bitter defeat against the Spanish this season: At the start of the league phase, the Munich team lost 7-1 in Catalonia.
Ena Mahmutovic looked unfortunate when going behind. The FC Bayern goalkeeper stormed out of her box after a long ball from Jayde Riviere, but hit over the ball and allowed Malard, who had won the duel against Vanessa Gilles, to give Manchester the lead. The Munich women now pushed mainly on the right side and Momoko Tanikawa. However, the final pass to the front was always too sloppy. Things only seemed to go better in the air: after a corner, a header from Gilles (36′) landed on the side netting.
After the change, FC Bayern continued to turn things up. A rebound from Bernadette Kakounan landed at the feet of Pernille Harder, who had scored twice in the first leg. However, Manchester goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce (54′) was able to cleverly deflect the Danes’ shot on the move with her foot. In the final phase, however, the Munich women’s will and constant pressure against the declining English women paid off.
