This spring, the World Snooker Championships will not be played with a white ball, but with a neon green ball.
Many who saw the news of the World Snooker Tour must have been surprised that the April Fool’s story has been revealed a day too early.
There isn’t.
Neon green is the color of the betting company working as a partner of the World Cup.
– Traditions are really important in our sport, but we are also enthusiastic about the reform, WPBSA boss Jason Ferguson comment on the World Snooker Tour website.
– Fans and players are going to love this new batting ball. This is one of the biggest equipment changes in the 150-year history of our sport.
According to Ferguson, the neon green ball is used exclusively for the World Cup, which is traditionally played at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield.
– I honestly believe that this is a great step forward for snooker, top player Kyren Wilson says
– The idea of the white ball changing color to neon green may sound bold at first, but this is exactly what our sport needs right now – something that grabs attention and gets people talking.
The World Cup tournament starts on April 18 and ends on May 4.
– We have quite a brave history, especially when it comes to the World Cup, but change is the key if we want to continue growing and get a new generation of fans on board.
