AZ will say goodbye to two goalkeepers. The contracts of Sem Westerveld and Daniël Virginio Deen will be terminated, the club reports. The two will leave Alkmaar after the current season.
Westerveld is currently rented to MVV Maastricht. The 23-year-old goalkeeper is first choice at the Limburg club and plays his matches in the first division. Sem is the son of former goalkeeper Sander Westerveld, who made waves in England and Spain and played six games for the Dutch national team.
Daniël Virginio Deen is Jong AZ’s reserve goalkeeper. The 23-year-old goalkeeper has played seven games in the first division this season and has been on the bench for the first team a number of times.
Professional football clubs had to inform players before April 1 of any termination of the expiring contract. In addition to Westerveld and Deen, AZ only has players with a continuous contract in the selection for the first team.
Next Saturday, AZ will play at home against Fortuna Sittard. The match starts at 6.45 pm in Alkmaar and can be followed via the live blog on NH Sport. Next Thursday, AZ will play Shakhtar Donetsk in the quarter-finals of the Conference League.
