A Belgian cycling star for the great Belgian classic: Remco Evenepoel surprisingly announced his participation in the prestigious Tour of Flanders on Sunday.
The double Olympic champion from the German racing team Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe is celebrating his debut in the most important one-day race in his home country.
“Flanders, are you ready?”Evenepoel asked in an Instagram post on Wednesday, confirming the speculation of the past few days. The new teammate of the German shooting star Florian Lipowitz had previously stated several times that he did not want to take part in the second big spring classic of the year. He didn’t start at Milan-Sanremo this year.
Among the favorites
Because of his qualities, Evenepoel is automatically one of the extended favorites for the Tour of Flanders. World champion Tadej Pogacar and his eternal rival Mathieu van der Poel, who have won the last four titles between them, will be difficult for the Belgian to beat.
