Beach tent Zandvoort places nets against seagulls
It is an annoyance for many beach visitors: you are just enjoying a bite of food and before you know it, a cheeky seagull snatches it from your plate. Niels Priester from the association of beach tenants in Zandvoort is fed up and is taking measures for next summer. “Guests come to relax, but are constantly harassed. This cannot continue,” says Priester.
To prevent nuisance from seagulls, nets are stretched over the terraces of beach pavilions. Mango’s Beachbar is the first beach pavilion to take the lead and participate in a trial that will run all summer. An evaluation will be conducted after the summer to see whether the trial should be extended.
Alkmaar school comes with self-driving taxi for students
PCC Oosterhout in Alkmaar is the first school in the Netherlands to develop a self-driving taxi that picks up students from home.
Initially, two taxis will be used to take students to school. Students can reserve boarding times via an app that is linked to Magister (a student administration system). By pressing the green button, a student can be picked up from home. “The students have started working on this since the beginning of last school year and we have now reached the point where our self-driving taxis have been approved to go on the road,” says school director Johan Dekker.
