Five-time biathlon Olympic champion Quentin Fillon-Maillet will continue his career to be able to take part in the 2030 home games. In preparation for the coming World Cup season, the Frenchman will initially slow down a bit in the summer – for good reason.
Quentin Fillon-Maillet announces a short break from training next summer. “I won’t be training with the French national team at the end of July or beginning of August, but will be with my partner,” he revealed to Nordic Magazine. Because: He and his partner Lydie are expecting their first child at that time.
The biathlon star has already drawn up an “overall plan” to get in shape in time for the new winter. “I just need to work out the details.”
After the birth, the 33-year-old wants to include his family in his everyday training routine as much as possible. “It’s a question of adjustment,” said the veteran: “As long as I’m with my girlfriend and my future child, there are no restrictions – whether in training camp or at competitions. If I can take them with me, it’s easier for me to find the right place to train.”
Fillon-Maillet looks at other biathlon icons: “There are solutions”
He will try to “find solutions without having to make compromises.”
Other biathlon stars have already proven that it is possible to combine top-class sport and family life. Quentin Fillon-Maillet emphasized: “Martin [Fourcade, Anm. d. Red.] did it, Johannes [Thingnes Bö] and Justine [Braisaz-Bouchet] also. There are solutions, we just have to find them.”
However, biathlon luminary Bö ended his successful career quite early last year in order to have more time with his family. Meanwhile, after the end of the World Cup season, Fillon-Maillet announced that he wanted to continue until 2030 in order to take home one last big highlight at the Winter Olympics in France.
