Things are getting hot on the pitch in the duel between Bosnia and Italy. Off the field, the fans also provide spectacular images.

On Tuesday evening, eight European nations are fighting for nothing less than a World Cup ticket. A particularly exciting duel takes place in Zenica: Bosnia and Herzegovina hosts Italy. Before the decisive game for a place at the 2026 World Cup, the home fans heated up their team tremendously.

While the two teams prepared for kick-off, the Bosnian side presented a choreography. With numerous waving flags, they bathed a curve of the Bilino Polje stadium in the national colors. But what was even more impressive was what happened behind it. Pyrotechnics were set off in the adjacent residential blocks – there are several high-rise buildings around the arena. A few rockets shot into the night sky.

Several fans also looked out of the windows from a house behind the opposite goal while they set off pyrotechnics. The Bosnian supporters had already delivered impressive images on Tuesday in the run-up to the decisive game against Italy. Large groups marched together to the stadium and also presented a small pyro show.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has only qualified for a World Cup finals once. In 2014, the Eastern Europeans lost all three group games in Brazil. The Italians also took part in that World Cup for the last time. In 2018 and 2022, the four-time world champion failed dramatically in the playoffs; the opponents at the time were Sweden and North Macedonia. In Bosnia, the Italians now want to defy the heated atmosphere and end the trauma.
