The qualifiers for the next European Championship have been drawn where the top six will go to the pre-Olympic. Windows in November and February: Italy in the group with Austria, Slovenia and Latvia
As soon as the championships have concluded, the thoughts and concentration of the Italians will all be turned to the next event: the World Championships in Berlin, scheduled from 4 to 13 September. The dream of returning to play in a world championship that Italy has not participated in for 32 years, but above all going there to compete. Then in the autumn the qualifiers for the 2027 European Championship will begin, a particularly important event: the top six classified will enter the pre-Olympic tournament which will offer the Los Angeles 2028 Games as a prize.

Today in Switzerland there was the draw. Italy was in the first pot and will be in group K with Slovenia, Latvia and Austria. Coach Capobianco’s team makes its debut on 11 November 2026 at home against Slovenia, then two more matches in the first window: in Austria on 14 November and in Latvia on the 17th. The other window will be in February: in Slovenia on the 10th, then at home against Austria on 13 February and Latvia on the 16th. The best two teams from each group qualify. The national teams of the host countries are already sure of being there: Belgium, Finland, Lithuania, Sweden. The words of coach Capobianco: “After what was defined by Fiba last summer in Bologna as the ‘group of death’, this time too we had a solid, tough, high-level group. There are first-tier teams in their respective groups, we are talking about national teams that have tradition, high-level naturalized athletes and are trained well. As usual, I have been saying this since the first day that I coach these extraordinary girls, we must try to play at the top of our level and then see how it ends.
