Charity game escalates: fight between police and fire department

The extent of the rivalry between the New York Police Department and the New York Fire Department becomes clear during an ice hockey game in front of thousands of spectators.
A charity ice hockey game between the New York Fire Department and the New York Police Department got completely out of hand. In a social media video you can see how, when the score was 2:2, there was initially “just” a fight between the players on the ice. The game was able to continue afterwards, but the players were far from calming down.

With the final whistle of the game, which the New York police ultimately won 3-2, all dams broke. All players from both teams rushed onto the ice and a two-minute, completely wild melee ensued. “It’s like your family at home. You defend them – at work or on the ice,” said New York Fire Department striker Stephen Kelly to the New York Post before the game.
It is not uncommon for these arguments to occur in this game. But according to the New York Post, the rest of the game was much quieter and fairer than in previous years.

Before the game, New York Police Captain George Antzoulis made it clear how seriously the two departments take the games.
“The boys stay at work for three days, they go straight back to work from ice hockey training. They sleep in the office, in chairs or in the car in the parking lot,” he said, according to the Outkick portal. It is a great honor for all police officers and firefighters to be chosen for the team for the encounter.
