“Sometimes unhappy” in Manchester

©IMAGO

In recent years, Bernardo Silva has often been linked with a move away from Manchester City – and always ended up staying. However, the 31-year-old playmaker and Skyblues captain’s contract expires this summer and there are increasing signs of a farewell after nine years. Fabrizio Romano reports on a decision made by Silva, who may have already prepared it in the club’s official podcast a few days before.

“I don’t want to say that I don’t like being here. But culturally, Manchester doesn’t correspond to my expectations of life. And sometimes I’m unhappy because of that,” said the Portuguese there. “I always joke and say that if Manchester City were a little further south in Europe, I would stay here until they kicked me out of the club. Because I really love this football club, I love my teammates, I love the staff, I love the fans, I love the stadium, I love the atmosphere.”

After Lisbon and Monaco, the Benfica homegrown team moved to Man City in 2017 for 50 million euros. He has won virtually everything there, including six championship titles and the Champions League, and is one of the top 10 players in the club’s history with 449 appearances to date. Are you now heading back to warmer climes?

Romano writes about interested parties in Europe, Saudi Arabia and the North American Major League Soccer, without specifically going into specific clubs. In the rumor mill, Silva was recently traded at Juventus, Galatasaray and Inter Miami. FC Barcelona is also repeatedly considered a potential buyer for the 107-time national player. With a market value of 27 million euros, Silva is currently the third most valuable player who can move on a free transfer in the summer. Only Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté (26) and Juve’s Dušan Vlahović (26) are ahead of him with 50 million and 35 million euros respectively.
