Amazon has to temporarily stop production of the “Tomb Raider” series. Lead actress Sophie Turner has been injured – details are not yet known.
Filming on the “Tomb Raider” series was interrupted due to an injury to Lara Croft actress Sophie Turner (30). “Sophie Turner recently suffered a minor injury,” film production company Amazon MGM Studios told industry magazines “Deadline” and “Entertainment Weekly”. “As a precautionary measure, production has been temporarily paused to allow it to recover. We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.”
Details about Turner’s injury and whether she sustained it on set were not provided. Amazon MGM Studios announced in mid-January that filming had begun on the series starring British “Game of Thrones” actress Turner. Turner and Amazon MGM Studios published a first photo of her in the typical Lara Croft look with a tank top and a gun holder on her thigh.
The “Tomb Raider” series for the streaming portal Prime Video is based on the video game series of the same name, which has been popular since the mid-1990s. Lara Croft is an archaeologist and adventurer who embarks on dangerous missions. Before Turner, Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander had embodied the action heroine in three films.
In addition to Turner, Sigourney Weaver (“Avatar”), Jason Isaacs (“Harry Potter”) and the German-Swedish actor August Wittgenstein (“Ku’damm 77”) will also star in the new series. The screenwriter and producer is Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who created the successful series “Fleabag”.
In US trading on the NASDAQ, Amazon shares temporarily rose by 1.89 percent to $203.10.
