The Roads and Traffic Agency monitors bicycle traffic at 87 locations. What turns out? Nieuwpoort is one of the most popular municipalities in Flanders for cycling. In the top ten busiest counting locations, the lock complex in Nieuwpoort is in sixth place and the bicycle counting point a little further on the Kaai is in tenth place.
More than 800,000 and more than 650,000 bicycle movements were counted respectively. There was a lot of cycling, especially in April last year, because it was exceptionally mild. Almost a third more people then traveled by bicycle.
