The Venetians celebrate their championship triumph after the 1-1 draw with Corini’s team. Ravenna beats Gubbio, a sign of salvation for the Grifone. Crotone and Foggia win again

Pietro Scognamiglio

March 29 – 11.34pm – MILAN

16 Serie C matches on Sunday, with all three groups on the pitch. Here’s what happened.

group a

On the day of the official awards ceremony for the championship victory and the crowds in the city, Vicenza remained on top and scored 1-1 with Brescia: the real news was the return to goals of Corini’s team, who hadn’t scored since February 28th (and scored the fourth draw in a row, to the returning guest’s advantage Crespi responded by Rada, at 0-0 Gori saved a penalty from Carraro). In any case, Brescia thus gains a point on Lecco who is overturned by Cittadella in an intense direct clash: Metlika breaks the balance from outside the area, the equalizer arrives in the melee with Rabbi’s eleventh center, then the overtaking from the spot by Castelli as soon as he enters (but Lecco complains for several episodes, a double post on a free kick from Parker, a goal disallowed for offside by Zanellato – some doubts, there is no clear image to evaluate – and a penalty canceled due to precedent foul by Parker, sent off). Cittadella, which goes to Brescia next time, is thus fully back in the running for at least third place.

group b

While waiting for the top clash between Arezzo and Ascoli in the postponement, Ravenna – out of the fight for supremacy, but still at least third – makes its voice heard on the road to the playoffs and wins in Gubbio with a brace from Fischnaller (7 goals since he arrived in January). Just a draw between Campobasso and Guidonia: ahead by two at halftime (great volley from Serra), the Molise team were caught up until Frascatore took advantage of Tantalocchi’s uncertainty. Important victory for Perugia’s salvation, as they pass onto the Vis Pesaro field thanks to the performance of substitute Bacchin on an assist from Verre (man of the match, he also hit the crossbar). The 0-0 home draw in the direct clash with Bra (which returns to move the table) essentially puts an end to Pontedera’s hopes, ever closer to direct relegation. Forlì-Pianese and Pineto-Sambenedettese also finished without a goal, with Samb remaining in the playout zone.

group c

Already knowing – after Catania’s success on Saturday – that they will not be able to celebrate direct promotion on this day, Benevento is stopped at 1-1 by Cosenza (thus reaching third place): the center forwards score, with Beretta responding to the league leaders’ opener scored by Salvemini. Floro Flores’ team still has a 9-point advantage over second place, reassuring with four matches to go. Crotone wins again, overturning Cerignola and continuing to believe in fifth place: Paolucci’s away advantage is answered – again in the second half – by Musso, Energe and Zunno. Casarano’s good momentum continues, 7 points in the last 3 games: with Giugliano, one goal in each half from Grandolfo and Leonetti is enough. Altamura remains in the running for a place in the playoffs, beating Siracusa with Millico’s beautiful left-handed lob (he had been without a goal since September, with Valente’s cross for the guests). Turati’s team finds itself increasingly last also because Foggia breaks the deadlock, after a dark series of 10 defeats and a draw: Michele Pazienza’s team beats Trapani thanks to Staver’s flash at the start of the second half following a corner development. Beyond the pitch, Trapani’s fate will now be decided in the halls of sports justice: tomorrow Antonini’s club will be judged by the FIGC Court of Appeal (the Prosecutor’s Office will ask for exclusion), on Tuesday it will return before the Tfn. In the evening, 0-0 between Picerno and Monopoli.
