Stefan Horngacher is ending his era as national ski jumping coach after seven years. According to media reports, his successor is said to be a name that has not yet played a role in public discussion.

In Planica, Stefan Horngacher said goodbye after seven years as national ski jumping coach. His successor is said to have already been determined – but the DSV is silent on the name. According to the SID, many things point to Andreas Mitter, Horngacher’s assistant so far.

The Austrian Mitter has not yet appeared in the public candidate discussion. Thomas Thurnbichler, Grzegorz Sobczyk and Alexander Stöckl were last traded. Mitter knows the DSV team from his time as Horngacher’s assistant. As a former head coach of the Finnish national team, he also has experience at World Cup level.

B squad coach Thomas Thurnbichler confirmed to “TVP Sport” that the decision was made internally: “At this point in time I can say that Stefan’s successor has already been determined. He will be announced in due course.”

DSV sports director Horst Hüttel said on Saturday on ZDF: “We are right at the finish line, but we are not over it yet. There are still things that need to be discussed.” He doesn’t see any time pressure: “There is no time pressure, we prioritize seriousness and content.” And: “It won’t be long.”

Karl Geiger finished the season as the best DSV jumper in eighth place. He didn’t mention the name of his future head coach, but said: “I think it will be good.”

Horngacher said goodbye on ZDF with the words: “It was a long and beautiful time. I didn’t want to admit it, and now the day is here.” About his future he said: “I’ve done nothing but ski jumping since I was ten years old. I can’t do anything else.” First he wants to gain some distance – “but first I’ll play a lot of guitar, pick a lot of mushrooms and ride my bike.”
