For Mick Schumacher, the debut season in the IndyCar Series is one more disappointment.
At the fourth round in Birmingham/Alabama, the former Formula 1 driver missed out on a top 20 finish for the third time after 90 laps, finishing 24th and penultimate in the field. Victory at Barber Motorsports Park went to Schumacher’s Honda brand colleague and pole sitter Álex Palou from Spain.
Schumacher started from position 20 in the RLL team’s car and temporarily slipped to last position. The son of Formula 1 record world champion Michael Schumacher was at least able to leave his teammate Louis Foster (Great Britain) behind.
At the opener in St. Petersburg/Florida, Schumacher was eliminated on the first lap after an accident that was not his fault. In the race on the oval track in Phoenix, Arizona, the 26-year-old came 18th and 22nd in Arlington, Texas.
After his involvement in Formula 1 and most recently in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), Schumacher is the first IndyCar driver from Germany in 21 years. The last German in the series before him was Timo Glock in 2005.
