Is All’s Fair really the worst TV series ever?
For years we have recognized American seriality with all the dignity it deserves, because it has been able to present itself as an ideal mirror of society and to best metaphorize the multiple, conflicting and often irrational forces of our times.
Also All’s Fair, Ryan Murphy’s female legal drama that everyone talks badly aboutso much so that it has achieved the coveted recognition of “worst series of all time”, is nevertheless a portrait of America today.
In the cast of All’s Fair Kim Kardashian and Naomi Watts. (Disney+)
It is the story of a group of lawyers specializing in high-profile divorces who decide to leave a male-dominated law firm to create their own independent firm in Los Angeles. The protagonists would like to be determined, brilliant, face difficult cases of separations, prenuptial contracts, and above all scandalous secrets.
Despite a stellar cast – Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, Sarah Paulson and Glenn Close – everything thrives on exaggeration, from the plot to the acting, from the topics to the botox, so much so turn upside down in involuntary parody.
If, in intention, All’s Fair wanted to be a series about female empowerment, the outcome is that of an aesthetic catalogue which pays more attention to luxury, fashion and lifestyle than to social issues.
For those who love a perverse pleasure (guilty pleasure) or a caricature of it.
