Felix Nmecha could even miss the World Cup in the summer with his knee injury. National coach Julian Nagelsmann was generally optimistic at the press conference on Sunday, but did not want to give any guarantee that the Borussia Dortmund professional would return on time.
“There is definitely a risk that he won’t be able to play the World Cup. I have good hope that he can play and it will be good. He has a very good body and good muscles. He can compensate for a lot,” said the 38-year-old before the World Cup friendly match against Ghana (Monday, 8:45 p.m.).
Nmecha was initially nominated for the squad, but like Aleksandar Pavlovic had to decline. According to his club, the 25-year-old suffered an outer ligament injury in his knee in the 3-2 win against HSV and will be out for “several weeks”. An exact time was not given, but Nagelsmann’s statements now suggest a longer break.

And even if the injury has healed, the return to the national team could still take place, said Nagelsmann. “But then there is still no guarantee that he will be pain-free or that he will tolerate the pain. It is an injury that is not without its consequences.”
