Shortly after Weezer announced their “The Gathering Tour,” the band performed an acoustic on Friday (March 27). Rooftop concert in Venice Beach in California – the latest in a series of pop-up events surrounding her upcoming tour and new single.

Rivers Cuomo and Co. stood on the roof of the Hinano Cafe in the style of “Let It Be” and played a five-part acoustic set with Weezer classics such as “Undone – The Sweater Song”, “Buddy Holly”, “Island in the Sun” and “Say It Ain’t So” as well as “Go Away” with a guest appearance by Best Coast singer Bethany Cosentino.

Weezer have planned a series of pop-ups and surprise events around Los Angeles that they’re calling “Weezer: The Gathering – Initiation Week” – including a Weezer-themed trivia night at a local bar and a pickleball tournament (with the band members) on March 30th.

“The Gathering Tour” starts in September

On April 1st, the band will release their new single “Shine Again” – a track from their upcoming album, their first since 2021’s “Van Weezer”; In 2022 they also released the four-part EP project “SZNZ”.

With their latest actions, Weezer are building on a career that has been characterized by unusual ideas and a flair for catchy alternative anthems since the 1990s. Their self-titled debut from 1994 – often referred to as the “Blue Album” – made the band around frontman Rivers Cuomo suddenly famous and is still considered a milestone in power pop and alternative rock today. Songs like “Buddy Holly” or “Say It Ain’t So” have long been part of the genre’s established canon.

In the decades that followed, Weezer managed to reinvent itself again and again – sometimes with more experimental approaches, sometimes with a consciously accessible pop sound. Despite changing trends, the band remained a constant force in indie and mainstream rock.
