Jérôme Boateng is apparently facing trouble in court. The ex-footballer is said to have been traveling without a driver’s license.

An investigation is underway against soccer world champion Jérôme Boateng for driving without a license, as a spokeswoman for the Munich public prosecutor’s office confirmed to the “Bild” newspaper.

According to “Bild”, the 37-year-old former FC Bayern Munich defender was checked by police officers on Leopoldstrasse in Munich in November last year. It was determined that Boateng should not have been allowed to drive a car. The spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office told “Bild” that Boateng had a driving ban “due to a previous administrative offense”.

According to German law, if Boateng is convicted in the matter, he could face a fine or a prison sentence of up to one year. If it is a negligent act, there can be a fine of up to 180 daily rates or a prison sentence of up to six months.

Boateng played for FC Bayern Munich between 2011 and 2021, winning the championship, DFB Cup and Champions League treble twice, among other things. In 2014 he also became world champion with the German national team. Last fall he ended his active career as a footballer. After his departure from Bayern, he previously played for Olympique Lyon, US Salernitana and LASK.
