Florian Wirtz also made a great impression as a solo artist at the start of the World Cup year, but the magic foot longs for the return of his friend Jamal Musiala.
“Of course I hope that he’ll be 100 percent fit again soon,” said Wirtz after the German national soccer team’s 4-3 win against Switzerland in Basel: “I know that it’s not nice when you’re injured for a long time. You just want to be able to play on the pitch again without any problems.”
Munich’s Musiala is currently out due to a pain reaction in his leg, which was seriously injured last summer. “I try to ask him every now and then how things are looking. And to wish him all the best. I hope for him that he’ll be back to 100 percent soon,” said Wirtz.
“Wusiala” delighted the fans together at the home European Championships in 2024. National coach Julian Nagelsmann has the duo firmly scheduled for the title hunt at the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada (June 11th to July 19th). “Of course he can help us very well. That’s why I’ll be happy when he’s back soon,” said Wirtz about Musiala.
Against Ghana on Monday (8.45 p.m./ARD) in Stuttgart, the 22-year-old will still have to make do without his offensive partner. In Basel, Wirtz put on a rousing show even without Musiala and almost single-handedly secured the first win against the Swiss in 18 years with two goals and two assists.
