For young people, by young people. It is special for Nana (16), Xavi’Yenzo (15) and Jurainey (15) to be able to participate in this project. “This should actually be kind of propose a safe space. That is my biggest dream,” says Jurainey.
There were plans for demolition in 2010, but due to a lack of money at the municipality, that plan was scrapped. The bowling center remained standing and was squatted in 2016, meaning the building has now been inhabited for almost ten years.
Over the years, the future of the building was regularly discussed, but a decision was not made for a long time. Cooperative 5711 took action and managed to ensure that plans could be made from the community about what should be done with the bowling alley. They received the green light for the plans in 2023, and now there is a first concept.
This will be further developed in the coming months and the young people will present the plans to the aldermen in June. A final design must be submitted in October 2026 and the bowling center will most likely be purchased after that. The renovation will then start in January 2027 and the hope is that the youth culture center can open in 2029.
