England only plays 1-1 against Uruguay. But an expert is sadly missing from ITV’s reporting.
Roy Keane has had to cope with the death of his mother Marie. That’s why, according to the Mirror, the now 54-year-old was missing from ITV’s broadcast of the game between the English national team and Uruguay on Friday evening.
Channel presenter Mark Pougatch said during the live broadcast: “Everyone here and all of us at ITV send our condolences to Roy and his family on the sad death of his mother Marie.”
The mother of five died on Friday morning at the age of 79 in Marymount University Hospital, according to an online obituary. Below was a list of all the relatives who were able to say goodbye to her, Roy Keane was also there.

For Keane, his mother was an important caregiver. He once described her as “the only boss I listen to.” At the same time, she defended her son, who was considered an enfant terrible during his playing days. Long-time United manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s biography said that Keane had a “sharp tongue” and that the club parted ways with him in 2005 because he had exceeded his authority.
When the book was published, Marie said in 2013: “My God, I can’t believe Sir Alex would say things like that about Roy. I just can’t believe it.” It’s not nice for her to see “someone badmouthing a loved one like that.”
