End of the City era?
German coach could succeed Guardiola
March 27, 2026 – 7:17 p.mReading time: 1 min.

After ten years, Pep Guardiola could leave Manchester City in the summer. There are always rumors that a German coach is now being considered as his successor.
Brighton coach Fabian Hürzeler is apparently a candidate to succeed Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola. Sky reports this with reference to its own information.
Rumors persist that Guardiola could end his time at Manchester in the summer despite having a contract until 2027. Citizens are preparing for this eventuality and have put Hürzeler on their “watch list”. The current Bayern coach Vincent Kompany has already been discussed several times as a possible successor to Guardiola.
Hürzeler is therefore not the only coach who could succeed the 55-year-old Spaniard. But he is someone who would fit in well with the dominant Citizens. Brighton’s current style of play is clearly designed to create lots of chances with the ball, similar to how Manchester City does.
At City, however, Hürzeler would have even better individual players and could probably implement his idea of football even better. The 33-year-old’s contract with Brighton runs until 2027, but it is not known whether he has a release clause. He came from FC St. Pauli in 2024 after leading Hamburg to the Bundesliga.
However, he gave up a season in the German upper house in favor of moving to the Premier League. In his first season he led Brighton to eighth place, and the Seagulls are currently tenth.
