Golf star Tiger Woods crashed his car in Florida and was subsequently arrested. The responsible police announced this on Friday.

The American, who has repeatedly made negative headlines away from the golf course, has to answer for drunk driving.

Woods showed signs of impairment but passed a breath alcohol test, said Sheriff John Budensiek: “When we asked him to take a urine sample, he refused. He was therefore charged with drunk driving, criminal damage and refusing to take a lawful test in connection with the accident.”

Woods, who was uninjured in the accident at his Jupiter Island home, was trying to overtake a cleaning truck on a two-lane road, according to Budensiek. He hit the rear of his Land Rover. The vehicle then tipped over onto its driver’s side and Woods was able to crawl out on his own.

The crash occurred shortly after 2 p.m. local time. It is not the 50-year-old’s first car accident; in 2021, Woods suffered serious leg injuries in a multiple rollover in California. At that time, grass was the cause and Woods was traveling at a speed of around 140 km/h. As a result, the 15-time major winner had to undergo multiple operations.

Tiger Woods just celebrated his comeback

Woods recently made his comeback as part of the TGL indoor league and then at least did not rule out taking part in the Masters (from April 9th) in the US state of Georgia. He continues to struggle with the consequences of a spinal disc operation last October, which was the seventh back operation for the once best golfer in the world. In addition, Woods’ Achilles tendon ruptured in March 2025. He has not played a tournament since the British Open in the summer of 2024.
