Bitter news for RC Strasbourg and the Argentine national team: As the association confirmed on Friday afternoon, Joaquín Panichelli has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will be out for the rest of the season. The 23-year-old attacker, who is top scorer in Ligue 1, will also miss the World Cup in the summer.
In Ligue 1’s market value update on Friday, Panichelli climbed from 25 million to 35 million euros – he has increased his market value by 28 million euros since the start of the season. In the summer he moved from Deportivo Alavés to RC Strasbourg for 17 million euros, where he is having an outstanding season. With 16 goals in 27 appearances, he is the top scorer in Ligue 1. He also led Strasbourg with two goals and three assists to the semi-finals of the Coupe de France, where they will face Nice on April 22nd.
Panichelli made his debut for Argentina against Angola in November 2025 and was nominated by Lionel Scaloni for the international matches against Mauritania (March 27) and Zambia (April 1). The three-time world champion’s squad includes two other center forwards: Julián Alvarez from Atlético Madrid and Palmeira’s José Manuel López.
