Before the game against Switzerland, the national coach will be asked about his personnel decisions. And answers slightly irritated at one point. The reason: a supposed “problem child”.
National coach Julian Nagelsmann reacted slightly irritably to a repeated question about one of his national players. In an interview a few minutes before kick-off of the first international match of the year in Switzerland, the 38-year-old answered questions on RTL.
And was also asked about the current squad by RTL presenter Laura Wontorra. Wontorra wanted to know more about a recently much-discussed national player. She asked: “Antonio Rüdiger has also found a place in your squad again. He has recently made headlines because of things that happened off the pitch. Is he on probation or does that not matter to you?”
Nagelsmann made it clear: “I think I said a lot to Antonio. He is a player who extremely identifies with his role in the national team, who extremely identifies with giving everything for his ‘family’ here, as he calls it, and I think that describes everything.” However, the DFB coach emphasized: “Of course he also knows that he has a role model function and doesn’t want to do certain things that aren’t well received. But we don’t always have to discuss every mini-situation from him in great detail. He already knows what he has to do in the future and what he shouldn’t do.”
