Group leader Hilma Hooijer of Gemeentebelangen regrets the situation. On the day of the municipal elections, she only found out that Ina Doorten and Jan Steenbergen were active at a polling station.
“I thought: I don’t think this is allowed at all, but I didn’t think about it for too long. I asked Jan: if you fill out the form for a polling station, you will be asked whether you are eligible, right? He said he didn’t have to fill in anything.”
Later that evening, while the results were being counted, Ina Doorten entered the town hall. She told Hooijer that she had just finished counting. “The same thing came over me as with Jan, I don’t think this is allowed?”
The party still needs to discuss it with each other, but there will be no consequences, says Hooijer. “That goes a bit too far, I understand that both were not aware of any harm. Fortunately, research shows that no strange things were found.”
The resident of Noordscheschut indicates that both party members should have known better, but also believes that the municipality could have monitored better.
