In Croatia’s game against Colombia, Luka Vušković scored the 1-1 equalizer. After the game, he dedicated the goal to a former Bundesliga player who is currently in hospital.
Long-time Bundesliga player Ivan Klasnić is currently apparently struggling with health problems. Klasnić is currently hospitalized in Croatia. HSV defender Luka Vušković reported this after the friendly with Croatia against Colombia (2-1) on Thursday. The 19-year-old scored to make it 1-1 and then said: “I would like to dedicate this goal to him because unfortunately he has been in the hospital for some time. It is not an easy time for him.”
The alarm bells will ring for many Bundesliga fans: Klasnić is suffering from chronic kidney failure. He has now had to have three kidney transplants because the first kidney organs did not function properly or were rejected.
According to Bild, Klasnić is currently in the hospital out of caution. He caught a virus and subsequently developed a high fever. Because of his kidney disease, he was admitted to the hospital, but can leave immediately once his condition has stabilized and he no longer has a fever.
The kidney failure could have been recognized by Werder Bremen team doctors as early as 2002, but it was only discovered in 2008. That’s why there was a legal dispute that only ended in a settlement in 2020. At that time, Klasnić received four million euros from his former club, for whom he now takes part in games for the traditional team again.
