The premium luggage manufacturer TUMI is deeply rooted in New York and has always stood for precision, performance and uncompromisingly well-thought-out design – for people who naturally move between cities, time zones and decisions. TUMI brought this mindset to Frankfurt on the occasion of the opening of the new store on Opernplatz in March and at the same time celebrated the evolution of the iconic Alpha collection. In the curated atmosphere of the LOWKY Studio, TUMI opened the world of the brand to a select group. Guests from media, business and design experienced interactive product presentations, exciting talks and culinary highlights – embedded in a clear focus on craftsmanship and innovation. The focus of the evening was design and functionality as well as the question of how modern travel and global realities of life are continually evolving.
Voices of the evening
The highlight of the event were two discussion formats that opened up different perspectives on performance, mobility and design. Lars Föll, General Manager TUMI Germany, gave insights into the strategic importance of Frankfurt as an international hub for the brand. The location is one of the central markets in the European travel and business context and thus reflects TUMI’s self-image as a globally oriented lifestyle and performance brand. At the same time, he explained the further development of the Alpha collection and its consistent focus on the requirements of modern mobility. The focus is on functionality, structural organization and long-lasting quality – properties that shape TUMI’s product philosophy and are tailored to the needs of an internationally mobile everyday life. It became clear how closely product design, user behavior and brand values are linked.
The conversation between Susie von Stemmen, Head of Mobility & Travel at Business Punk, and top athlete Mario Götze focused on performance, focus and international mobility. The exchange painted a personal picture of performance beyond the playing field – between professional sports, family and entrepreneurial projects. The focus was on routines, mental strength and adaptability as constants of sustainable performance. It became clear how much clarity in thinking and structure in everyday life form the basis for continuous development. The 2014 soccer world champion also reflected on what inspires and drives him beyond sport – and how he manages to maintain orientation and constantly develop further in a dynamic, international environment.
Alpha collection
For decades, the Alpha collection has stood for a precisely defined form of modern mobility – continuously developed without losing sight of its origins. From TUMI’s beginnings in 1975 in New York to the current generation, which can now be experienced in Frankfurt. From the first Alpha backpack to the latest models, which consistently take function, materials and construction further.
Today the collection includes a wide range of travel companions: backpacks and duffle bags as well as hand and checked luggage. Characteristic elements such as the TUMI Tracer® system, precisely designed zippers and patented roller systems mesh seamlessly and form a design language that is designed for efficiency, movement and reliability. With accents such as “Ultra Blue”, the collection sets targeted contrasts and translates technical precision into a clear visual language. Alpha remains a central part of the portfolio, developed for the requirements of an increasingly global and mobile everyday life.
Impressions
This evening, Frankfurt presented itself as a stage for international encounters and urban energy. Between conversations it became noticeable how strongly mobility is now understood as a cultural and personal principle. With the Alpha collection and the new store at Opernplatz 4, TUMI is continuing this idea and creating places and products that connect people in a globally mobile community and open up new perspectives.
