It is the sixth time that a European Hockey Championship has been held in the Wagener Stadium. After this year’s Hockey World Cup, the complex will undergo ‘further development’, including the construction of a ‘high-performance training center’ and three new stands.
“We look forward to working with the KNHB and the local authorities to make this tournament another special hockey festival, while this famous location continues its modern development,” said chairman Marcos Hofmann of the European hockey federation EuroHockey on the KNHB website.
General director Erik Gerritsen of the hockey association is looking forward to the European Championships in three years’ time. “We are also grateful that EuroHockey has confidence in our ambition to realize the renovated hockey stadium and high-performance center before the start of the 2029 European Championship.”
