Michael van Gerwen lost the final of the eighth round in the Premier League darts on Thursday evening. The Vlijmen native had to bow 6-4 to world champion Luke Littler in Berlin.
Van Gerwen quickly fell behind 3-0 in the match with Littler, but he fought back to 3-3 thanks to a nice 124 finish. However, the Englishman then took the lead again with a 170 finish in the eighth lay Littler came to match point.
Van Gerwen did break back, but then Littler decided with a 17 throw in the tenth lay the duel.
Van Gerwen reached the final by beating former world champion Luke Humphries and Josh Rock earlier in the evening. For Luke Littler, his victory on Thursday evening was the third during this darts competition between the best eight players in the world, which lasts seventeen evenings.
Gian van Veen from Andel was eliminated in the first round on Thursday. He lost without a chance to Gerwyn Price. Van Veen skipped the seventh round in Dublin last week because he had to have kidney stones removed.
