Angelique Kerber cheers at the Olympic Games in Paris

As of: March 26, 2026 • 12:09 p.m

Angelique Kerber plays her last tennis match in Hesse. At the Bad Homburg Open, the former world number one would like to serve again against her good friend Ana Ivanovic.

The former world number one Angelique Kerber will play an official farewell match almost two years after her last tennis match as a professional. The 38-year-old will meet her good friend Ana Ivanovic in Bad Homburg on June 20th. “It’s the perfect stage for a special day with lots of emotions,” said Kerber. Kerber is the tournament director for the WTA grass event (June 20-27).

“I’m really looking forward to Ana, because somehow this match closes a circle,” explained the winner of three Grand Slam tournaments. “We’ve known each other for a really long time, she’s one of my best friends and we’ve spent a lot of time together on and off the pitch.” A few days ago the two were in Paris together, as they showed on Instagram.

Show match almost two years after saying goodbye to the Olympics

Kerber was the best German tennis player of this millennium and was number one in the world for a total of 34 weeks in 2016 and 2017. She competed one last time at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and ended her career after losing in the quarterfinals to eventual gold medalist Zheng Qinwen. The Serbian Ivanovic (38) was also number one during her career and won the French Open.
